The largest city in Alberta north of Edmonton, Grande Prairie offers a wide number of attractions and activities for the outdoorsman such as fishing, sleigh rides and cross-country skiing. Several provincial parks are located west of town such as Moonshine Lake and Pipestone Creek. Some trails are very remote with no services, so plan accordingly. If you want to bring along your cat or dog on your northern vacation, several hotels in Grande Prairie have pet-friendly policies and facilities.

Stanford Grande Prairie Hotel

The Stanford is one of northwestern Alberta's largest full-service hotels. The hotel offers more than 200 rooms, some with kitchens and even luxury suites with Jacuzzi. All rooms include wireless Internet access. The hotel has an on-site dog walk and also supplies a "pooch package." The kit has an ID tag for your cat or dog with the hotel phone number and your reservation code. Also included are a food dish, special treat and cleanup bags.

Best Western Grande Prairie

The Best Western has 100 affordable guest rooms at its Grande Prairie location. Rooms include on-demand movies, mini-fridge and complimentary high-speed Internet connection. Pets are welcome, but there is a $25 (CAD) surcharge per night, plus tax. Be sure to inquire about the hotel's pet policies when booking your room. The policies also can be viewed online.

The Holiday Inn Express offers lodgings near the Muskoseepi Park as well as the Grande Prairie Airport (YQU). The hotel offers guest rooms and suites, which all include wireless Internet access, cable and in-room movies, and mini-refrigerator. The facility is pet-friendly but charges $25 (CAD) per night for accommodating your pet.
