A borough of Passaic County in New Jersey, Hawthorne is a small town that is home to the "world-renowned Hawthorne Caballeros Drum and Bugle Corps," according to hawthornenj.org. The town is also home to numerous parks and fields where residents can partake of numerous recreational activities, such as hiking, soccer, running and swimming. While enjoying an active lifestyle, visitors and residents can also dine at one of the areas several diverse restaurants featuring Latin, German and Italian food.

Sabor Latin Bistro

Sabor Latin Bistro specializes in the traditional spices and meal preparation of Latin cuisine. The menu features a tapas, lunch and dinner menu whose selections include garden salads, seafood, beef and chicken tapas, and authentic entrée selections such as paella, red snapper, tuna, skirt steak, filet mignon and suckled pig. The menu also includes a specialty cocktail drink list with margaritas and a wine list including varietals from Italy, France, Spain and New Zealand. The restaurant can also cater any event and features numerous in-house events such as Latin dancing every Friday and Saturday night, happy hour from Monday through Thursday, mojito Mondays with half-priced mojitos all day, martini and Brazilian music night on Wednesday and martini night, with a live DJ, on Thursday.

Kirker's Inn

A casual eatery, Kirker's Inn specializes in traditional German and American fare. The dinner menu features Kirker's signature kirker-tizers (appetizers), which include shrimp cocktail, a German sausage sampler, mussels and Nana's Slops, which combine "Bolgnese, Chopped Onions, Touch of Garlic and Fresh Ground Beef Sautéed With Marinara Over Cappelini," as stated on kirkers.com. The rest of the menu includes sandwiches, burgers, thin-crust pizza, seafood, pasta, and German entrees such as meatloaf, vanilla beef, wienerschnitzel, sauerbraten and Bavarian wurts (sausage), as well as various sampler platters, such as the German sausage platter and a Bavarian sampler that contains an array of offerings featured at the Inn. The Inn has discounts on meals between 3 and 6 p.m. from Monday through Saturday, as well as a Tuesday night dining special, when six of the Inn's entrees are $12 from 6 to 8 p.m. Diners can also enjoy numerous beer and wine selections and desserts from Kirker's; the desserts are made in-house. Prices are as of December 2009.

Ossy's Cafe

A family-owned and -operated restaurant, Ossy's Café specializes in fine Italian cuisine. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner; its menu features cold and hot appetizers, soup, salads and pasta dishes such as penne, linguini with red or white clam sauce, fussilli romana with pink sauce, cavatelli with broccoli, manicotti and ravioli. The menu also includes veal, chicken, beef and seafood dishes, all of which come with a side salad and vegetable of the day. Guests can also enjoy a glass or bottle of wine; Ossy's features white, red, sparkling and blush wines and champagne. The restaurant has a separate banquet menu for parties and other events, which Ossy's caters in its private banquet facilities.
