German Restaurants in Cincinnati, Ohio

German Restaurants in Cincinnati, Ohio
The city of Cincinnati is brimming with signs of its German past, which dates back to 1788, when the first Germans arrived in the city. By the 1800's, German societies were being formed around the city, setting up the groundwork for the German restaurants that still remain here, keeping the rich German heritage alive.

Christy's and Lendhardt's-German and Hungarian Cuisine

Christy's is located in Clifton near the University of Cincinnati campus. The outdoor Biergarten is a U.C. hot-spot throughout the warmer season, but the Rathskeller in the basement is the place to go to get that authentic German pub feel. The restaurant not only serves authentic German and Hungarian foods, but also offers up more than 40 draft and bottled beers from the full service bar. Closed on Sunday.

Hofbrauhaus Newport

Hopping the river to Newport, Kentucky, the Hofbrauhaus has a beautiful view of the Cincinnati skyline and is a German food and beer favorite for Cincinnatians. It is known for the famous imported German soft pretzels served with their signature homemade Bier Cheese, but it serves many other German and American dishes as well. The building is modeled after the original Hofbrauhaus in Munich, Germany, and this traditional German restaurant and pub is one of the most happening places to be on the weekends. Opens daily at 11am.

Mecklenburg Gardens

Offering a variety of foods from traditional German dishes to typical American cuisine, Mecklenburg Gardens is a great place to have dinner or throw a party. The historical building boasts German style architectural elements including stained glass windows, heavy wood timber beam ceilings, large mahogany bar tops and several fireplaces, giving you a German feel on Cincinnati turf. If their Wienerschnitzel doesn't keep you coming back, the fried pickle appetizers will. Mecklenburg is closed every Sunday.
