Resorts in Virginia Near Shenandoah Park
A couple hours' drive from the Nation's Capitol, Shenandoah, National Park is an outdoorsman's paradise. The park has more than 500 miles of trails, including a 101 mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail. Most of the trails are accessible from Skyline Drive, which runs along the ridge. The Shenandoah River is ideal for canoeing and kayaking. Hotels in and around the Park are convenient to trails and other outdoor activities, for those who wish to get back to nature for a few days.

Skyland Resort

Founded in 1888, Sklyand Resort is older than Shenandoah National Park. It sits at 3,680 feet, at the highest point on Skyline Drive. The resort offers great views and sits within easy reach of many trails. The resort has rooms in 28 buildings, some of which are cabins. Rooms come with amenities such as fireplaces, mini refrigerators, sofabeds and TVs. The Pollack Dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The resort is secluded, for those who wish to escape from civilization. Wildlife is plentiful and hiking trails are within walking distance, like the Stony Man Summit Trail which reaches 4,010 feet. Rooms are available seasonally.

Big Meadows Lodge

Built in 1939, Big Meadows Lodge is listed by the National Register of Historic Places. The lodge has 29 rooms, a craft shop and two restaurants. The Spottswood Dining Room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nightly entertainment is offered in the New Market Taproom. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. Amenities may include flat screen TVs and stone fireplaces. All the rooms have balconies. The meadow next to the lodge draws local wildlife, including deer. The lodge is open seasonally. Pets are allowed in limited rooms.

The Luray Caverns are a mile away and there are numerous trails just steps from the lodge. The Bearfence Mountain hike is a challenging hike up rocks that ends with a magnificent views.

Days Inn: Luray

Located near Shenandoah National Park, Days Inn: Luray has 100 rooms, with views of the Massanutten and Blue Ridge Mountains. Guests can choose between two double beds or one king. Eight of the hotel's rooms have Jacuzzi tubs. 14 of the rooms are antique themed, with antique furnishings. High-speed Internet and breakfast are included. Amenities include an outdoor pool, fitness area and miniature golf course. Laundry facilities are on site. With a small fee, pets are welcome.

The hotel is close to the Luray and Skyline Caverns. The Shenandoah River is close by, offering canoeing and kayaking.
