Washington State offers a beautiful natural environment and plenty of plant life. Guests traveling to Washington can see a variety of regional plants and trees, as well as plant species from all over the world, in one of the state's carefully tended gardens. Many of these gardens provide guided educational tours for guests and plant enthusiasts.

Rhododendron Species Foundation and Botanical Garden

The Rhododendron Species Foundation and Botanical Garden specializes in the preservation and display of 600 Rhododendron species. Guests can tour the Botanical Garden and explore Rhododendron species from Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. Spread among the Rhododendrons are a variety of other plants, trees and shrubs completing a garden oasis. The Rhododendron Species Foundation is a nonprofit organization. Plants are available for purchase on-site and by mail-order. Year-round guided tours are available for garden visitors.

Bellevue Botanical Gardens

Bellevue Botanical Gardens offers a year-round display of plants that change with the weather and the season. Guests can explore the Alpine Rock Garden, the Waterwise Garden, the Yao Garden and the Northwest Perennial Alliance Border. During the winter holiday season, visitors can enjoy the Garden d'Lights light show. The gardens are open daily from dawn to 9:30 p.m. with free general admission. Tours are available on Saturdays and Sundays, April through October, starting at 2 p.m. Free guided tours can also be arranged for groups visiting the gardens.

Dunn Gardens

The Dunn Gardens are conveniently located 10 miles from Seattle. The Dunn Gardens offer rich history, as well as a beautiful collage of colorful plants and soaring trees. Tour groups are kept small, with a maximum of 12 people in each group, to ensure that each guest gets the most out of his tour experience. Due to the limited number of tours and the small group size, visitors must make tour reservations in advance. General admission is $10 per person with a discounted admission of $7 for senior citizens and students. No pets or children under the age of 12 are permitted. Tours are held Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, April through July and September through October. The gardens offer limited parking and cannot accommodate vehicles larger than a passenger van.
