Saltgrass Steak House
Saltgrass Steak Houses are scattered throughout Texas, Colorado and southwestern states serving up certified angus beef, ribs, chicken and seafood. Like so many restaurants on Seawall Boulevard, this steakhouse with the Texas trail-driver motif is right on the oceanfront. They boast numerous steakhouse awards and chefs prepare soups, breads and desserts in-house daily. Hurricane Ike did not slow it down for long. Its Monday to Friday 3-7 p.m. happy hour was back up and running in a couple of weeks.

Willie G's Seafood & Steak House
The same company that owns Saltgrass also owns Willie G's (and several others in Galveston). However, the atmosphere at Willie G's is completely different: stylish and modern without being highbrow. Steaks on the dinner menu are right around $30 per plate, but you will not find steak on the lunch menu. Willie G's is visually striking from the street--a large multi-story building in the Strand Historic District. Willie G's was completely remodeled after hurricane Ike. Find it on the harborside of the island near the Galveston retail zone. It is open every day of the week and happy hour is Monday to Friday, 4:30-7 p.m.

The Steakhouse at San Luis Hotel
For those interested in a first-class dining experience, The Steakhouse at San Luis Resort is the best you will find in Galveston. At least, that is the praise given it by "Texas Monthly" and "Galveston Daily News." Wear your nicer casual clothes--no beachwear, tank-tops or hats--but you will enjoy the luxury of leather seating in the mahogany-paneled dining room. Steak selections are all Midwest grain-fed beef and salad lovers will find several appealing choices. This dinner-only restaurant is closed Sunday and reservations are recommended.
