Hotels in Whittier, AK
Whittier, Alaska, is a small town about an hour away from the state's capital, Anchorage. It is a great location for those who love outdoor sports, as one can go kayaking, boating or fishing on the Prince William Sound or spend a day hiking through the Chugach National Forest. But before any activities are planned, it is important to first find a hotel in the area.

Anchor Inn

The Anchor Inn in Whittier, Alaska, has been family owned since 1980. This three-story hotel offers three types of room, depending on the size of your party: single, double or triple rooms. Each room comes with a dining table, separate living and sleeping areas and a full kitchen equipped with oven, stove top and full refrigerator. Guests also have the option of renting the vacation condo, which is a full apartment on the first floor of the hotel. Those who are looking to cook in their rooms can find supplies right next door to the hotel, as the adjacent building has a fully stocked grocery. But there are always some who dislike cooking; for them, the Anchor Inn has an in-house restaurant that serves American-style food for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day of the week.

The four-story, 26,000-square-foot Inn at Whittier has spectacular views of the ocean, as it rests right next to the town's harbor. It has 25 spacious rooms and two townhouse suites. Some of the hotel's rooms come with separating living and sleeping areas as well as private in-room Jacuzzi tubs. The townhouse suites come with plasma-screen televisions, fully stocked kitchens and private fireplaces. The hotel also has an in-house 150-seat restaurant that overlooks the harbor and serves an array of fresh Alaskan seafood. For business meetings or celebratory occasions, the hotel can be rented out and closed to the public.

The Soundview Getaway

The Soundview Getaway in Whittier is a cross between a time-share and a luxury hotel. It has a handful of apartment-like rooms, all coming with fully equipped kitchens, coffee and tea makers, cable televisions with VCRs and separate sleeping, living and dining areas. Despite each room's size and cozy feeling, however, this hotel has a strict no-pets-allowed policy. Also, because most cooking and dining can be done in room, there is no on-site restaurant or free complimentary breakfast. But guests will perhaps forget about these lack of amenities when they see the spectacular views each room has of Prince William Sound and Chugach National Forest.
