Brazilian Restaurants in the Florida Keys

Brazilian Restaurants in the Florida Keys
The Florida Keys is a tourist hotspot that's jammed with restaurants. Though the Keys have their own style of cooking, dubbed "conch cuisine," plenty of ethnic foods can be found, most prominently Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Italian and Cuban. Brazilian food, known for regional distinctions that celebrate the many ethnicities that make up the Brazilian people (including Indian, Portugeuse and African) is only minimally represented in the Florida Keys. There are only two Brazilian restaurants on the islands.

Braza Lenza, Islamorada

This authentic Brazilian steakhouse, called a "churrascaria" in south Brazil, is at the Whale Harbor Marina. Traditionally dressed gauchos, or meat-carvers, circulate around the abstract-art decorated dining room. The restaurant has a salad and side-order bar filled with more than 50 upscale ingredients. The restaurant has a solid wine list and full bar.

Braza Lenza, Key West

The Key West version of Braza Lenza opened in 2009 and offers the same 16 cuts of slow-roasted meat and daily seafood specials with a side-and-salad bar for the same price as the Islamorada branch. As in Islamorada, gauchos serve fine meats with fine wines and drinks among an impressive art collection.

Try Cuban Instead

The Florida Keys does not have Brazilian roots, and Brazilian is not a native cuisine. If you want try something flavorful, opt instead for Cuban food. The island of Key West is closer to Cuba than to Miami, and the Keys boast a large Cuban population. Cuban influence can be seen throughout the Keys. Restaurants such as El Maison de Pepe and El Siboney in Key West make for an excellent introduction to Cuban cuisine.
