West Street Grill is a favorite Litchfield restaurant because of its fabulous healthy modern American cooking, its downtown location and popular outdoor seating. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner and specializes in fresh, light, locally grown food. Served in a low-key atmosphere and by friendly staff, the cuisine really is superb. For lunch, try a Shrimp Tempura Salad or the Grilled Black Angus Burger made to your specifications. The Short Ribs of Beef Braised in Guinness is a local favorite for dinner, or Woodfire Grilled Organic Scottish Salmon. Plain and simple but so delicious. The West Street Grill has been open for twenty years and has even hosted celebrities such as Meryl Streep and George Clooney, which says something about the quality of the food.

The Village
Another Litchfield fine dining favorite is The Village. Locals frequent The Village for its steaks, pastas and seafood as well as the extensive pub menu in its friendly pub. The Grilled Rack of Lamb is superb as is the handmade Linguini with Clam Sauce. If you're a sandwich lover, you can look forward to some of the best sandwiches you'll ever eat - the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich drizzled with balsamic vinegar is a restaurant favorite, and the Salmon and Crab Cake Sandwich has the right zing. The restaurant also features different daily dinner specials. The Village was recently chosen by Connecticut magazine as one of the "Best of Connecticut."

Tollgate Hill Inn and Restaurant
Once called Captain William Bull Tavern, the Tollgate Hill Inn and Restaurant is now listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Open for business since 1745, it's one of Connecticut's oldest restaurants and has had a phenomenal reputation for most of those almost 275 years. Only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, for all-out quaintness alone, you should eat at the Tollgate Hill Inn and Restaurant. Fine dining at its best, the menu is an incredible selection of modern American dishes that will make any gourmand happy. Prince Edward Island Mussels, Prosciutto Wrapped Shrimp, Grilled Idaho Trout, or Cider Braised Pork Chop, all are guaranteed to please your palate. The Tollgate Hill Inn and Restaurant will soon be serving Sunday brunch too. Don't miss a walk around its lovely grounds either, especially in the fall when the fall foliage is in full color.
