The Atmosphere
The German Restaurant is located in a quaint and cozy building with authentic German décor, and ambience. The owners, Uwe, and Dagmar Kasper, are always at the restaurant and love meeting their patrons. Every employee is hand-picked by them and fits the image, complete with full Bavarian attire. You will think you have somehow been transported to Germany.
Additionally, the restaurant often features live music, and special events. As you would expect, Oktoberfest is a big holiday for the restaurant, with gallons of beer flowing and lots of dancing. Don't be surprised any time of the year if an accordion is playing, and the servers are dancing between taking care of the tables.
You will not find more authentic German food without hopping a flight to Munich or Berlin. The German Restaurant is very true to its roots, and you also will not find non-German food in this restaurant. The food is fresh, delicious, and the portions are big enough to take some home for tomorrow's lunch.
There are five different varieties of Schnitzel on the menu, all hand cut and hand breaded just the way they are in Germany. Half a dozen sausage varieties are available, from knockwurst to Nuernberger Rostbratwuerst'l, and a variety plate, Passauer Wurstplatte, for those who'd like to sample a number of different types.
Sauerbraten is one of the most popular dishes, and they also serve lots of stroganoff, goulasch, and roulade. Rounding out the menu are the fabulous side dishes: potato pancakes, dumplings, spaetzle, red cabbage, and German potato salad.
For those who like variety, the restaurant offers a huge German Sampler Platter. Bring a big appetite! It contains Sauerbraten, pork schnitzel, grilled Nuerberger pork sausage, roasted pork, sweet and sour cabbage, Bavarian kraut, German potato salad and potato dumplings, as well as spaetzle. Meals are generally under $20, with kid's menu items under $8. Great early bird specials are served from 4 to 6 p.m. daily and 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. These limited menu items are under $8, including a salad or soup.
No German restaurant would be complete without a fine selection of authentic German beers, and the restaurant does not disappoint in that regard. They offer a selection of five German beers on tap daily: Paulaner Lager, Bitburger Pils, Hofbrau Original, Erdinger Hefe Weizen (Wheat), Hofbrau Dunkel (Dark). Several more are added during the Oktoberfest season, and also carry a number of bottled German beers as well.
Though less well known, Germany also produces lots of great wines, and the restaurant imports many of those for its customer's pleasure. Try one of the Gluehweins. This translates to glow wine-spiced wines that warm you when you have a little chill, and they are fabulous.
