Restaurants That Serve Brunch in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Restaurants That Serve Brunch in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Philadelphia is perhaps best known as home to historical icons such as Independence Hall where the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Philadelphia is, however, also a cosmopolitan city that represents a wide range of ethnic, and cultural influences, and as such, is a popular destination for travelers interested in other attractions. The Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Franklin Institute science museum are popular draws. There is also a wide range of restaurants and cuisines available. Moreover, this culinary diversity remains on display wherever Sunday brunch is served.

Azalea

Located just one block from historic Independence Hall, Azalea is an ideal brunch spot for travelers who wish to make the most of their visit to Philadelphia. Azalea offers American regional cuisine in an atmosphere that lends itself to special occasions, and larger parties. Brunch is buffet style and available on Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm. Service includes a chef's carving station that offers slow roasted rack of lamb and filet mignon, and a chilled seafood station with Fluer de Sel cured salmon, and lignee of smoked rainbow trout. Other stations offer pastas, cheeses and eggs made to order as well as cakes, mini pastries and crème brulee for dessert. Reservations are recommended, and as of 2009 brunch is $39 per person.

Caribou Café

Just seven blocks west is Caribou Café, a bistro style restaurant that features French cuisine with staples on the daily menu such as cheese soufflé and frog legs. The ambience is informed by its art deco bar area, and an outdoor café is open weather permitting. The Sunday brunch menu offers an extensive selection of French inspired items such as house-made pates, escargot, cheese plates, and a brioche bread pudding. Traditional brunch items are represented as well; eggs Benedict, omelets, and steak and eggs are all available. All brunch items are ala carte and as of 2009 are priced at $7 to $18.

Estia

For visitors who prefer seafood, Estia offers Mediterranean ambiance, and traditional Greek cuisine. The space is defined by hardwood and stone floors, vaulted tile ceilings and an open kitchen. Souvlaki plates are available as well as whole grilled fish sold by the pound. Brunch retains a Greek flavor with items such as avga kavouria, which is an open faced omelet prepared with fresh crab meat, asparagus and kasseri cheese. French toast is made with a traditional sweet bread called tsoureki, and avga spanakia is an omelet with spinach, tomato, leeks, and feta. Brunch is served with a complimentary glass of champagne, mimosa or bloody Mary, and as of 2009 prices range from $10 to $26.
