Nicknamed "The American Riviera," the west coast city of Santa Barbara is a nature lover's dream. You can take part in a wildlife safari in the Los Padres National Forest, watch the dolphins, and sea lions during a kayaking tour, glimpse the whales in the Santa Barbara Channel, ride horses, surf, or golf, all in one city. Restaurant choices are seemingly endless in Santa Barbara, serving everything from international fare to the good old American cheeseburger.

Café Zaytoon

This restaurant receives high marks from restaurant reviewers, and customers alike. At Zaytoon's you can enjoy a wide variety of Middle Eastern dishes at reasonable prices. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. six days a week, and cost around $13; dinner starts at 4 p.m., is served until 9 p.m., and averages around $20 a person. Open Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Located adjacent to El Presidio De Santa Barbara State History Park. Dress is casual; jeans are fine.

Elements Restaurant and Bar

Voted "Best Place to Be Seen" by the Santa Barbara News Press, this chic, upscale restaurant and bar offers Happy Hour every day from 4:30- p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The outdoor terrace overlooks the lovely Sunken Gardens. Elements is just a mile from Ledbetter Beach and Park and less than two miles from the Santa Zoological Gardens. You can lunch from a menu of exotic salads, sandwiches, and a handful of entrees for around $15 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The dinner menu includes eight interesting entrees, such as Lemongrass and Panko Crusted Local White Sea Bass, served with Thai green coconut curry sauce, saffron basmati rice, summer vegetables and chili oil.

Emilio's Ristorante and Bar

Emilio's prides itself for serving healthy Mediterranean inspired fare with entrees featuring seafood, meat, and pasta. Located right on the Pacific coast, this romantic restaurant is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. The menu is simple. All appetizers are $10, flatbreads and pastas are $15, entrees are $20, and the Three course Prix Fixe is $29 Mondays through Wednesdays. Emilio's is just down the block from Truth Aquatics, which placed sixth in Rodale's Scuba Diving magazine's readers' choice in the Top 100 Overall Best Diving Excursions. Open for dinner nightly. Dress casually.

The Habit Burger Grill

When you've had enough rich food, stop by The Habit for a great burger. Take the kids along to enjoy a charbroiled burger, grilled sandwich, or tasty salad with a malt, cone, or sundae. Open 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. There are four locations in Santa Barbara, but the State Street restaurant is just a couple of blocks from Vera Cruz Park.
