Hotels in Rio Dulce, Guatemala
"Sweet River," also known as Rio Dulce, is a town in Guatemala, between Lake Izabal and the town of Livingston. Also referred to as Fronteras, Rio Dulce is a great spot to relax for a few days. Check out the hot springs, manatee reserve, and local canyons. Listen to the deep growl of the howler monkeys as you take a rest at one of the area's comfortable hotels. There are no street numbers, so be sure to set up transport before you arrive.

Hotel El Tortugal

Choose from one of several bungalow-style houses offering dormitories and private rooms. Stay in El Ranchito and look right out on to the river, or in La Casa Natural for a more jungle experience. Hot water is available, as is laundry service. The hotel also offer package tour deals, in case you want to take an organized boat adventure around the area. The restaurant is situated right on the pier and offers fresh fruit smoothies, pasta, hamburgers, pancakes, and local staples. El Tortugal is about 1 km down from the main strip.

Hotel Backpackers

An affordable lodge right on the water, this hotel offers dormitories and private rooms with your own bathroom. There is a laundry service, transportation across the river, and a lockable space, so you can leave your valuables protected. All rooms come with hot water, towels, and clean sheets. There is a bar open at night that caters to the backpacker crowd. Money from the hotel goes to Casa Guatemala, a non-politically funded charity that serves as an orphanage and school for local kids.

El Hotelito Perdido

For a jungle getaway try El Hotelito Perdido, situated in the middle of the rainforest off the Río Lampara. This place is ideal for those wanting closer proximity to some of the natural wonders. It is minutes from hot springs, the Manatee Reserve, and a beautiful waterfall. Choose between two person dormitories, or a two-person bungalow (both private and shared bathrooms available). The rain collected water used for showers is solar powered and hot. Use the kayaks or go swimming in the river before crashing out at your bungalow.
