Mattituck is a small village in the Town of Southould on the Mattituck Inlet, which leads to Long Island Sound. A local legend claims that Captain Kidd visited the area and buried a treasure, although that treasure has never been found. On Thanksgiving the Mattituck Teachers Association sponsors a 5K fun run/walk that begins at the Mattituck High School. Laurel Lake preserve is nearby and offers hiking trails and fishing.

Old Mill Inn

The Old Mill Inn offers both indoor and outdoor dining and is located on Mattituck Inlet. The Inn is styled as an old schooner, with water views available from the indoor dining area. The restaurant specializes in fresh local seafood. The Long Island oysters are a special treat. The catch of the day depends on what is local and available. Steaks also are available, and the grilled filet mignon is tender and flavorful.

Touch of Venice

Touch of Venice is located close to the Mattituck Inlet and has both indoor and outdoor dining. The dining room is romantic and elegant, highlighted by a fireplace that is cozy in the winter. The food is rustic Italian, and a specialty is gamberi alla griglia--grilled shrimp in a garlic and lemon sauce over a bed of capellini. A favorite appetizer is the Little Neck clams dusted with sopressata and drizzled with olive oil.

Pine Grove Inn

The Pine Grove Inn located in nearby East Patchogue is a waterfront restaurant that offers indoor and outdoor dining. The restaurant specializes in German cuisine and fresh, local fish and seafood. Its Blue Point oyster appetizer is a standout as is its classic sauerbraten. On Sundays it serves a buffet brunch. On weekends it has live music.
