Shenandoah, Virginia, is a two-hour drive from Washington, DC and on the edge of Shenandoah National Park.

With more than 500 miles of trails, Shenandoah National Park has hikes for every level. 101 miles of the Appalachian Trail pass through the park.

You can reach most of the trails from Skyline Drive, which runs along the top of the mountains.

Big Meadows Lodge

Located in Shenandoah National Park, Big Meadows Lodge is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The lodge, built in 1939, has 29 rustic rooms.

The lodge also features two restaurants, a craft shop and nightly entertainment.

Big Meadows Lodge is open seasonally.

Skyland Resort

Predating the park it sits in, Skyland Resort was founded in 1888 as Stony Man Camp. At 3,680 feet, it sits at Skyline Drive's highest point. Along with spectacular views, the resort also is the starting point of many hikes.

The resort's 28 lodging buildings come with a variety of room configurations, some are individual cabins. Some rooms come with sofa beds, fireplaces, mini refrigerators and TVs.

The resort is open seasonally.

Days Inn - Luray

Just outside Shenandoah National Park, Days Inn - Luray is less than a two hour drive from Washington, DC.

The hotel's 100 rooms come in two-double bed or one-king configurations. There are eight rooms with jacuzzi tubs.

Rooms come with free breakfast and high-speed internet. The hotel has a fitness area, outdoor pool and on-site miniature golf course.
