Located less than 90 minutes south of downtown Buffalo, Olean, New York sits on the banks of the Allegheny River, near the Pennsylvania state line. Its remote New York location places it in close proximity to a number of natural attractions, including Allegheny National Recreation Area, Allegany State Park and the Rock City Park, a glacier-cut canyon just south of the city. Holiday Valley, in nearby Ellicottville, is home to world-class skiing. When it's time for a break in the action, stop in at one of the delightful eateries found in this remote New York locale.

The Old Library Restaurant and Inn

A fine dining establishment located inside of a former Carnegie Library, The Old Library is an Italian-inspired steakhouse, with an extensive menu of steaks and chops, chicken dishes and pastas. The house specialty is as 22-ounce handcut porterhouse steak. The Old Library is also the only restaurant in Olean that will serve steaks blue, or Pittsburgh-style.

Century Manor

A more traditional steakhouse, the Century Manor is famous for its generous portions and dining room grills. Chefs prepare steaks on open gas-fired grills in each dining room, ensuring that meals are served at the optimal temperature. The house specialty is the New York strip steak, and the homemade French onion soup is one of the most popular menu items.

Beef 'N' Barrel Restaurant

The family-owned Beef 'N' Barrel Restaurant takes no reservations. Lines of waiting diners regularly go out the front and back doors, winding past carving stations, where chefs slice large slabs of roast beef, the restaurant's specialty. The menu is highlighted by roast beef and au jus dinners, as well as as regional favorite--roast beef sandwich on a kimmelwick roll, known as a beef on a wick. Desserts are made from scratch in the restaurant's bakery.

The Ho-Sta-Geh

Ho-Sta-Geh is located at the crest of a hill, overlooking Rock City Park, and takes its name from the neighboring Seneca Indian Nation's phrase for "up on the rocks." The family-owned restaurant has ceiling-to-floor windows in the dining room, which look into the park's gorge. An extensive fine dining menu features fresh seafood, steaks and chops. The nine-ounce filet mignon is the most popular item. It is served alone and is also paired on the menu with shrimp scampi and a lobster tail.
