One of three communities making Topsail Island, Surf City is in the middle of this 26-mile long barrier island located some 30 minutes northeast of Wilmington, North Carolina. Known for its maritime forest, pristine beaches and abundant wildlife, Topsail Island is a favorite resort for summer visitors. Surf City has the largest year-round population and is home to the most hotels on the island.

Tiffany's Motel

Located adjacent to the central business district in Surf City, the three-story Tiffany's Motel is close to everything including the beach, restaurants, shopping, amusements and entertainment. An elevated sun deck, two outside pools and a laundry facility are among the amenities offered. Single- and double-room accommodations as well as two-bedroom suites are available; each room features queen-size beds with larger rooms including a kitchen. Pets weighing less than 25 lbs. are welcome; when making reservations inquire about the motel's nonrefundable sanitation fee.

Nearby attractions include the Jolly Roger Pier and Surf City Pier, popular fishing destinations while charter fishing and wreck diving. Moonlight cruises set sail from adjacent Topsail Beach, home of the state's only turtle rescue hospital.

Island Inn

Open seasonally from April 1 through Nov. 15, the Island Inn is the closest hotel in Surf City with a pool to the beach. Guests enjoy private rooms with queen-size beds, microwaves and refrigerators; each room in this one-story inn has a picnic table right outside the door. Pets are not allowed.

Bike and kayak rentals are nearby while shopping, restaurants, snorkeling, fishing, boating and scuba diving are among the other attractions available. The Missiles and More Museum can be visited in nearby Topsail Beach.

Surfside Motel

The two-story Surfside Motel is the only beachfront hotel in Surf City. An elevated walkway leading to a sun deck and outside shower borders the beach, giving guests quick and easy access to the ocean. Oceanfront rooms are on the second level while street front rooms are on the first level. One to three beds are available per unit; each unit room includes microwaves and refrigerators. Mature pets are welcome; a $10 sanitation fee applies.

Nearby attractions include shopping, fishing, boating and restaurants. The motel is located near the Highway 50/210 swing bridge leading to the mainland, where the Holly Shelter Game Lands, a nature preserve and wildlife habitat owned by the state of North Carolina, can be found. This preserve is popular with canoeists, kayakers and fishermen.
