Kalamazoo is located in Michigan's southwest lower peninsula. Kalamazoo County has 83 lakes and Lake Michigan is a 40-minute drive away for visitors interested in boating, swimming and other watersports. The Kalamazoo River is also available for canoeing and water activities. The Kal-Haven Trail offers 34 miles of hiking, biking, horseback riding and, in the winter, cross-country skiing. It stretches from Kalamazoo to South Haven, located on Lake Michigan. During the winter Kalamazoo has the Echo Valley Winter Sports Park for ice skating, tobogganing and tubing, and there are three places near Kalamazoo for downhill skiing and snowboarding.

Each of their 95 rooms has a 32-inch flat-screen television, a hair dryer, an iron, free Wi-Fi and a full kitchen, including a dishwasher, microwave, toaster, refrigerator and dishes. The hotel has a fitness center open 24 hours a day and a business center. The front desk has safety deposit boxes and outside, the hotel has grills for barbequing. They offer free guest laundry, a video library and an in-hotel convenience store. They welcome pets weighing less than 80 pounds once a signed agreement and a fee have been posted by the owner.

TownePlace Suites Kalamazoo by Marriott is located five miles from Western Michigan University and downtown Kalamazoo. This extended-stay hotel has a business center and a 24-hour fitness center. And they offer access to a nearby fitness center if a guest finds the on-site facility lacking. Their 80 suites and studios come with cable television, iron, hair dryer, free in-room Internet and a kitchen that includes a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, two burners, dishes and utensils. They also offer guest laundry, an indoor pool and free continental breakfast. Pets are welcome but a nonrefundable fee and signed agreement need to be submitted. There is a two-pet limit per room.

The Baymont Inn and Suites is located less than three miles from Western Michigan University and downtown Kalamazoo. Their 87 rooms offer free Wi-Fi, iron, hair dryer and coffee maker.
