The Appalachian Trail is just one of the many outdoor adventures Lexington, Va., has to offer. The Boxerwood Nature Center and Garden is a beautiful site dedicated to environmental education. Even the Natural Bridge, 20 stories of solid rock, and its caverns, are nearby. You may be roughing it in Lexington during the day, but when night falls, if you're in the mood for a bit of luxury, Lexington has a few restaurants that may be to your liking.

Cafe Michel

For a luxurious night on the town in Lexington, head to Cafe Michel and its delightful French cuisine. Start with the cold cucumber soup--it may sound strange, but it is actually unique and delicious. For your entree, the seafood Provencal is great. As far as beverages go, their wine list is extensive and the wines they sell by the glass change often so there is always something new to try. It is far from a stuffy environment despite its position as Lexington's favorite special occasion eatery. Featured in Southern Living magazine, the restaurant is perched on a hill with beautiful views of downtown Lexington. The interior decor gives you a feel of Southern France through its decor. Open for dinner Monday to Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Cafe Michel is an ideal dining spot in Lexington.

The Red Hen

The Red Hen features local, seasonal ingredients provided by neighboring farmers. New menus are crafted daily based on what is freshest and most delicious for that day, making it the perfect special occasion spot. Open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., even the wine here comes from organic vineyards. The small red building has a cozy atmosphere inside and visiting here you feel like you're contributing to the well-being of yourself and the entire community. Some past favorites dishes from diners have been the seared scallops appetizer and the browned butter trout. The staff there is extensive in its knowledge of the food and wine and will take the time to speak to you about your likes and dislikes in order to create a meal that is really personalized for you.

House Mountain Inn

House Mountain Inn, a bed and breakfast, hosts a wonderful dinner each night that non-guests are always invited to. Its homey atmosphere, intimate ambience, natural wood decor, breathtaking views and homemade food makes it a perfect special night out restaurant. Non-guests should call for a reservation to attend the three-course dinner served from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. You'll receive an appetizer, entree, non-alcoholic beverage and dessert. You cannot go wrong starting with their garden fresh salad because you can definitely taste the freshness. The wild mushroom stuffed raviolis are served with a roasted red pepper sauce to die for. For your entree, the menu always includes a beef, chicken, pork, fish, and pasta dish to choose from. If you will be drinking, ask the bartender about his Chardonnay wine mix of local and Australian wines, it is his specialty and a delicious blend.
