Steak Houses in Japan

Steak Houses in Japan
Japan offers an array of culinary experiences to travelers from around the globe. Beyond traditionally recognized dishes such as sushi, delectable and distinctive steaks can be procured in most cities in Japan. Japan's famous kobe beef, known in Japan as wagyu, is used throughout the nation to craft world-renowned steaks.

Tokyo

One of Japan's most renowned restaurants is a steak house in Tokyo called Aragawa. Listed in Forbes Magazine as one of the world's most expensive restaurants, visitors should expect to drop a hefty sum for one of its locally farmed steaks. A party of two can easily run a tab of around $800 to $1,000.

Kyoto

Grill Miyata is known for having some of the best steaks in all of Kyoto. It attracts many local visitors, which speaks to the quality of the restaurant as more than a tourist hot spot. Moderately priced (for a steak house in Japan), the Grill Miyata offers menu options such as hamburgers for the folks in your party who might not be as excited about steaks. It offers the ambiance of a small basement restaurant for savvy, world traveling foodies. The price of steaks begins around Y5000, much more reasonably priced by comparison to other recognized Japanese steak houses.

Niigata

The Kurumiya restaurant in Niigata City is more commonly recognized for its fish and rice dishes and its extraordinary hand-crafted sake, but its steak options are not to be overlooked. The domestic Japanese steaks come at a high price compared to their American counterparts but seem to be the running norm for highly specialized steaks produced in Japan. Whale and horse meat also are served for the more adventurous travelers.

Sapporo

The HAMA steakhouse in Sapporo Japan prepares its kobe (or wagyu) steaks in a Japanese teppanyaki fashion. HAMA provides the opportunity to combine an American love of steaks with an authentic experience of Japanese cuisine. Also exciting, the steaks are grilled in front of you.
