Psst...don't let the word out about this little gem or you'll never be able to snag a table. It's hidden in the basement of a movie theater building in the center of the village, and does comfort food like your Grandma. Grab a seat in one of the leather booths and relax. The friendly owners may be waiting tables and serving up hefty plates of butter chicken (a family recipe), ribs, pasta, and pot pie, all at wallet-pleasing prices. Entrees hover around $10 to $15, and great $10 specials are offered daily.

Splitz Grill
Forget about fancy eateries. When all you want is a really good, juicy, hefty hamburger, head to this casual, longstanding, cheap restaurant in the center of Whistler. Don't bother to go anywhere else; this is the place to get the best burger in town. Place your order, wait for your name to be called, and pick up your thick, cooked-to-perfection patty on a bun. Now, head to the huge garnish bar where you'll find at least 20 (free) toppings to pile on your burger. Be sure to order the hand-cut fries, too. Also on the menu are sausage burgers, lentil burgers and veggie burgers, along with hot dogs and chicken fingers.

Pasta Lupino
After a long day on the slopes, you've burned up some serious calories, and it's time for a carbo-load. This super tiny, inexpensive restaurant in Whistler's upper village (look for it behind the IGA) serves the best pasta in town. The sauces and pasta are all homemade, well-seasoned and served piping hot. You can't beat the prices; for under $12, you can get a basket of warm, just-baked bread, salad, and choice of pasta. There's take-out, too if the dining room is full (and it usually is) or you'd rather take it back to your condo and open a bottle of Chianti to go with the meal. Expect a line but the wait is worth it.
