The Brainerd-area chain of lakes offers canoeing, fishing and boating. For land lovers, the surrounding area features access to the Paul Bunyan Trail and Pillsbury State Forest. There are a number of hotel chains within Brainerd, but they offer poor service, boring rooms and more difficult access to the lakes and trails. If you're on a budget, visit nearby Baxter for better deals, service and lake access.

Lodge at Brainerd Lakes

Lodge at Brainerd Lakes features an indoor water park for family fun on winter nights or when the weather is poor. The lodge features log furniture and some fireplace rooms. Families seeking a cabin-like experience should consider the "Kid's Suite," which features bunk beds in one bedroom. The lodge is about 25 minutes away from downtown Brainerd on Lake Hubert.
