Gandhi Restaurant
Hamtramck is well-known for its Eastern European eateries, but those with an affinity for Indian cuisine will not be disappointed. Gandhi serves Indian and Bangladeshi dishes, a characteristic that makes the restaurant's menu stand out. The combination of white table cloths and a casual atmosphere is both elegant and laid back. Gandhi is famous for its authentic vegetarian dishes such as mushroom saag. The establishment also has a stellar lunch buffet and late hours. There is also fresh naan, and all available at very reasonable prices. Gandhi is a great place to try a sampler platter, various chutneys, samosas stuffed with peas or coconut and delicious pakoras.

International Cafe
The International Cafe, formerly known as the Small World Cafe, is unique and a delight for travelers, particularly those with a taste for art. The cafe is located in the basement of the Cultural Center and adjacent to the Detroit Institute of the Arts and the College for Creative Studies. The small space has an open layout with mismatched tables and chairs, Indian art decorates the walls, and those who dine here will feel like they are dining in the home of a friend. The cafe serves Middle Eastern, Mexican, Italian and American food, but the establishment is famous for its rich curries and Indian dishes. Fresh samosas tempt you at the entrance, and diners can enjoy generous portions of classic chicken curry and chana masala for well under $10 as of November 2009. Lasis are also available.
