McAllen, Texas is a great city for people who like to travel and explore. It is in very southern Texas, so it provides easy access to Mexico. The climate is warm and subtropical, so it is also a good environment for outdoor activities. According to the McAllen Convention and Visitors Bureau, there is a lot of golf, shopping and birding. McAllen also has several hotels and resorts.

La Quinta Inn McAllen

The La Quinta Inn is in a nice Spanish-style building, which fits in nicely in this city that borders Mexico. It is near many McAllen attractions, such as the McAllen Convention Center, the McAllen Municipal Auditorium, downtown McAllen, La Plaza Mall, El Centro Mall and Las Tiendas Shopping Center. Guests who like outdoor activities will appreciate that the hotel is only eight miles from the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, three miles from McAllen Municipal Golf Course and 14 miles from Bentsen State Park. It also feels like a safe place to stay, because there are a couple hospitals nearby.

The hotel itself offers meeting facilities, free high speed Internet, free newspapers, free parking, cable TV, an outdoor pool and free breakfasts. Guests are allowed to bring pets for a fee.

The Ramada hotel in McAllen was built with Spanish-style hacienda architecture, which is very common in the Southwest. According to the hotel's website, it has huge rooms and is a good hotel choice for families. Amenities offered at the hotel include a business center, laundry, cable TV, high speed Internet, microwaves and refrigerators in every room, free parking, free newspapers and free breakfasts. The hotel also allows small dogs and cats in some rooms for a fee of $15 to $25.

In terms of location, the hotel provides convenient access to many of McAllen's attractions, such as the Pepsi Sports Park, La Plaza Mall, Dodge Arena and LaVilla Real Events Center. It is in a good location for guests who want to watch sports at the Pepsi Sports Park or at Dodge Arena. It is also very close to Mexico, so travelers wanting to explore Mexico can stay in McAllen and still easily visit Reynosa, the nearest border city in Mexico.

Renaissance Casa de Palmas

The Renaissance Casa de Palmas is in a great location for individuals who want to explore the historic district of McAllen, Texas. Across the street from the hotel is Archer Park, which guests sometimes walk to and enjoy. Other nearby attractions include the Dodge Arena, a butterfly park, La Plaza Mall, an outlet shopping center, bird watching at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Valley Orchestra, University of Pan American, South Texas College and dolphin cruises (about 45 minutes away). There are many attractions near the hotel for guests who enjoy a variety of activities, ranging from shopping to bird watching to sports.

The hotel building was built in 1918 in Spanish-style architecture, and it his historic yet upgraded and nicely decorated. At the hotel restaurant, Latin cuisine is served to give guests an authentic cultural experience. Amenities at the hotel include, a gift shop, safe deposit boxes, a tropical courtyard pool, an exercise room, Sunday through Thursday evening hors d'oeuvres and covered parking.
