Parker House Inn

The Parker House Inn, rated best in the region by the Boston Globe and Yankee Magazine, uses locally harvested ingredients to create gourmet dishes that blur the line between French and New England cuisines. Examples include "Vermont Goat Cheese Tart," "Maple Bacon Wrapped Scallops," and "Roasted Lobster Bouillabaisse." Meals tend to be on the expensive side (entrees $24-33). Reservations are encouraged.

Fire Stones

Located on scenic Route 4 between Quechee and Woodstock, Fire Stones specializes in the clay oven style cooking that was for years central to the cuisine of rural Quebec. Dishes include traditional tavern fare, such as "Roasted Chicken Pot Pie," and "Half Rack of Lamb," but also more contemporary options like "Grilled Flatbread Pizza Margherita." Prices are mid-range (entrees $16-22). Reservations are accepted.

Farmers' Diner

Farmers' Diner offers up traditional American roadside fare with a twist: almost all the ingredients are produced in Vermont. You can eat with a clean conscience knowing that the beef in your burger and the eggs in your breakfast burrito (served all day!) were harvested humanely and in a way that's environmentally sustainable. Meals are reasonable (entrees $8-10). Reservations are not expected.
