No matter what time of year, there's an outdoor activity to be found, from biking and hiking, fishing and sailing, and cross-country skiing, sledding and ice skating. Madison has 6,000 acres of parkland and 13 beaches. Tour the historic Cave of the Mounds, or enjoy the beauty of the Olbrich Botanical Gardens and the UW Arboretum. And when you've worked up an appetite for steak, Madison offers a variety of steak restaurants to choose from.

Smoky's Club

Since 1953, Smoky's has been serving hungry Madisonites succulent steaks in a unique environment. Voted #1 Steak in the Midwest by "Midwest Living," Smoky's is owned by Leonard "Smoky" Schmock, who has adorned the restaurant with fanciful memorabilia he's collected over the past several decades. If you can survive the over decoration, the food is not to be missed. Tenderloin, sirloin, filet mignon, T-bone and rib eye are served on metal plates. Or if beef isn't your dish, sample the seafood including jumbo shrimp, pike, salmon, scallops or lobster, or the chicken breast or strips. Smoky's has a full bar including fine wine, champagne and a huge variety of specialty drinks. Vegetarians can try the vegetable lasagna or vegetable stir fry, each served with salad. Most of the dishes at Smoky's are reasonably priced, but fancier cuts of meat will run between $25-$35 and lobster is at market price. Dress is casual.
