Thai Restaurants in South Portland, Maine
Kayaking the Maine coast, hiking park trails, swimming, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, tidepooling---it all takes energy and calories. Portland, Maine has a slew of eateries to satisfy all tastes and appetites. But, if you're craving exotic Asian flavors, check out these top Thai restaurants in South Portland.

Pom's Thai

This unassuming eatery serves up an astonishing array of freshly-prepared, highly-seasoned dishes at reasonable prices. Start with the Kra-Thong, delicate pastry cups stuffed with sautéed chicken, carrots, onion, peas and corn, seasoned with curry and garlic, or the squid and veggie tempura. The scallion pancakes and curry puffs are tasty, too. The hot and sour seafood soup is chockfull of shrimp, squid, scallops, and mussels, flavored with lemon grass, lime leaves, and chile paste. There are eight specialty Thai salads, including the Som Tum papaya salad. Signature entrees include the tamarind duck, Thai orange chicken and the jumbo shrimp choo-chee in orange sauce. If you like things hot, try the Volcani Eruption, a fiery medley of scallops, shrimp, squid and mussels. Their sister property, also in South Portland, is Thai Taste (see below.)

Siam's City Cafe

This casual eatery with a upscale vibe is one of the finest Thai restaurants in Maine, if not New England. Service is impeccable and the food is fresh and expertly---and authentically---prepared. Chef-owner Tom Yordprom has made a name for himself with this restaurant serving seriously good food. You'll find a nice selection of curry dishes, along with fish, chicken, and duck all brilliantly seasoned with fresh herbs. Don't pass up the Pad Thai.

Thai Taste

Start with the shitake mushroom and avocado roll or the Thai crab cake made with locally caught crab meat, and chicken. The Thai wonton soup is a top seller, along with ginger crispy duck, and the melt-in-your-mouth salmon choo-chee, made with choo-chee curry, green beans and red pepper. There are several curry offerings, including the popular curry duck with red chile paste, tomatoes and pineapple slices, and the vegetarian mango curry. Another option is to create your own stir fry; choose your own combinations of meats or seafood and vegetables. There's a sushi bar, too, which is always crowded. This South Portland Thai restaurant always ranks high among the locals and is a consistent winner of local reader's choice awards. Their sister property, also in South Portland, is Pom's Thai (see above).
