General Butler State Park Resort Hotel
This quiet resort hotel is run by the Kentucky State Park service, and is typical of their hotels: of rustic character, well-maintained, and hospitable. There is a good on-site Southern-style restaurant as well as a decent golf course and access to the many attractions at nearby General Butler State Park. The lodge rooms are simple, providing basic amenities but no atmosphere; if you want atmosphere, go to the lodge foyer, where oversize windows brilliantly light a room dominated by a natural-stone fireplace . Several beautiful rustic and not-so-rustic cabins are also available, but due to the damp area, you'll find mold and mildew are a common problem in smaller buildings. The cabins are well-decorated in a country mode, with cast-iron skillets in the kitchens and exposed wood beam ceilings, several with fireplaces.
If you have allergies, you should probably stay at the lodge. If you have mobility issues, you should call the lodge and talk to them. Though the resort was just remodeled in 2004, only a few of the rooms are truly accessible.
Carrollton Inn
Located about two miles from General Butler State Park, Carrollton Inn is the oldest hotel in town and the only hotel in downtown Carrollton. This small, quiet place overlooking the Ohio River was once a private family mansion. It's pleasant and historic and has more atmosphere than any other lodging in town. A popular local restaurant takes up most of the ground floor, with excellent down-home cooking served up in generous portions.
Near I-71
Within just a few hundred feet of I-71 and in easy walking distance of a Super Walmart, a Kroger, and several national chain restaurants, you'll find several different hotels. All offer friendly customer service, as is typical in this area. Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express stand out, as both offer indoor pools and jacuzzi suites. Motel 6, Best Western, Economy Inn and Comfort Inn are also in the area.
