Steak Restaurants in Richmond, VA

Steak Restaurants in Richmond, VA
From upscale chain brands to locally owned favorites, Virginia's capital city is home to a range of quality steakhouses. While not inexpensive by local standards, many of Richmond's steak restaurants serve the same quality of fare that's found in bigger cities, at a more palatable price.

The Tobacco Company

Most Richmonders consider the Tobacco Company to be a local institution. The restaurant takes its name from its location inside an old tobacco warehouse, and its four stories of dining are connected by an antique exposed elevator. While not a steakhouse in name, the Tobacco Company's diverse menu is highlighted by the filet mignon and the Jamaican jerk-seasoned ribeye steak. Any of the steak options can be enhanced with options like gorgonzola crumbles or jumbo lump crabmeat. Reservations recommended.

The Border Chophouse

Located near Virginia Commonwealth University in the heart of the Fan neighborhood, the Border Chophouse is beloved for offering quality steaks at wallet-friendly prices. The borderhouse steak weighs in at 22 ounces, while the New York Strip is grilled with a tasty blue cheese walnut pesto. The Border Chophouse features a bar-like atmosphere, and prides itself on its signature bloody Mary bar, where you can mix a bloody mary to your own liking. Reservations not required.

Steak entrees are regular features on the menu of daily specials, and are complemented nicely by down-home sides such as onion rings, sweet corn and succotash.

Morton's The Steakhouse

Not far from the aforementioned Tobacco Company, Morton's is part of a national chain of fine dining steakhouses. Specialties include the porterhouse steak and the double cut filet mignon. For the less voracious, Morton's also offers so-called "slightly smaller" steaks, including the filet oskar, topped with crab meat and hollandaise sauce. Parking can be difficult in this area, but a walk through the Bottom or along the nearby canal makes for a complete night on the town. Reservations recommended.

Ruth's Chris Steak House

Another upscale chain representation, Ruth's Chris is the favored steakhouse for many of Richmond's Southside residents. Located in a restored Bellgrade mansion in Chesterfield County, Ruth's Chris is famous for its New Orleans-inspired entrée specialties like the petite filet and shrimp and the barbecued shrimp, both featuring jumbo gulf shrimp. Ruth's Chris prides itself on its wine selection and also offers private dining rooms that generally must be booked well in advance.
