Hotels in Monument Valley, Arizona

Hotels in Monument Valley, Arizona
Hotels in Monument Valley, Utah, couldn't ask for a more majestic setting. Just over the border from Arizona, hikers of the Valley will find myriad trails with their required guide. Among the sights for the taking are petroglyphs, tribal ruins and rocks that jut 1,000 feet skyward.

View Hotel

An eco-friendly, or "green friendly hotel in the red Navajo desert," as it bills itself, The View hotel couldn't go by any other name. And that makes sense once you've had a look at the sweeping grandeur of its panoramic vistas. Beyond its rooms' private balconies are the East and West "Mitten" buttes, two dramatically huge sandstone formations that are just the first of many features to keep you wide-eyed. There are TVs, refrigerators and microwaves in rooms, and Internet access in the lobby.

Goulding's Lodge

A quirky, old-fashioned-style hotel, Goulding's Lodge is a great choice for old Western movie buffs. A free museum of movie memorabilia, a movie set and Indian artifacts is on premises. And there's a film library for guest use that has all the requisite John Wayne Westerns. The Stagecoach dining room features American cuisine, but it might be hard to pay attention to the food amid the panoramic views. The hotel offers meeting facilities, Wi-Fi and a heated indoor pool. You can catch the "Earth Spirit Show" in the theater after dinner, a nightly presentation on how Monument Valley came to be.

San Juan Inn & Trading Post

The San Juan Inn & Trading Post's best asset must be the views of the sunset over the Valley. A red rocks cliff-side inn, those prone to vertigo would be well advised to stay elsewhere as it looks down a sheer drop to the San Juan River. There's access to the river from the Inn, a fitness center, laundry facilities and hiking trails. The Olde Bridge Grille serves American cuisine along with stunning valley views.
