North Beach, San Francisco Hotels

North Beach, San Francisco Hotels
San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood is known more for its Italian eateries, coffee bars and vibrant nightlife than for its recreational opportunities. However, choosing a hotel in this historic area between Fisherman's Wharf and Broadway will provide you with plenty of chances to enjoy the great outdoors. With the Pacific in one direction and San Francisco's legendary hills in another, you'll never be far from hiking, biking or water sports.

The San Remo Hotel

This remarkable hotel not only has the oldest Italian restaurant in the United States, but it has been restored to its early 20th century appearance.

The three-story, 62-room San Remo provides basic but charming lodging, with Victorian antiques and shared bath facilities in rooms that have neither televisions nor telephones. Important concessions to technical progress are the main hallway's Wi-Fi and dial-up Internet access, and the lobby's pay telephone. Bathrooms have wood paneling, marble sinks, genuine antique faucets and pull chain toilets.

The San Remo is a half-mile walk from Pioneer Park. Getting there is a good aerobic workout because the park sits atop Telegraph Hill with the Coit Tower at its center. Arrive at sunset for especially dramatic views of the bay and the city.

Hotel Boheme

The Hotel Boheme was built in the 1880s, but it was dynamited in 1906 to keep the inferno from spreading in the aftermath of that year's devastating earthquake. The hotel was rebuilt, and it had its most recent renovation in 1994. The hotel's owners have infused the hotel with San Francisco's 1950s' Beat Generation spirit.
This 15-room hotel with its bold lavender, burnt orange, green and black color scheme and vintage sheet music lampshades is as comfortable as it is quirky. Rooms have cast-iron queen beds, antique armoires, and wicker chairs. Modern conveniences include Wi-Fi, telephones with modem jacks, cable television and private baths with showers. Hotel management provides a map of their North Beach walking tour, including a stop at Pioneer Park. Bike and skate rentals are available nearby.

San Francisco Hilton Hotel

Situated at the border of North Beach and the financial district, the pet-friendly San Francisco Hilton has 544 bay- and city-view rooms and suites. All of them feature Hilton's signature Serenity Beds, coffeemakers with gourmet Lavazza coffee, and both Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access. The full baths have granite countertops and Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries. A cordless phone and work desk with ergonomic chair will let you catch up on your business, and your complimentary daily newspaper will help you keep up on what's happening elsewhere. Guests staying in Luxury Level rooms and suites also receive complimentary continental breakfast.
The Hill provides both pet and childcare services. The fully equipped fitness center is open around the clock. Plan a half-day hike from the Hilton across North Beach to the Fort Point National Historic Site. Luxuriate on your return with a massage and facial at the hotel's day spa, Tru.
