Merida, the capital city of the Yucatan, is located in the northwestern part of the pennisula. The city is about four hours away from Cancun by bus, but much further in culture. Sometimes called "The White City" because of its many limestone buildings, Merida dates back to the mid-16th century and offers a glimpse of Colonial Mexico.
