Common Ground Cafe
With a European-style bakery featuring whole-grain products including breads, muffins and pastries, the Common Ground Cafe is a place to eat in Cambridge that feeds body and spirit alike.
Hot sandwiches range from the restaurant's hearty Original Deli Rose with roast beef, corned beef, two cheeses, tomatoes, onions and hot ketchup on a warm fresh roll to the dessert-like peanut butter, honey and banana on whole wheat known for its appeal to kids.
The Common Ground's five salads come with a choice of its five homemade salad dressings and hot crusty French bread with lots of butter. Wraps with turkey, tofu or the chicken Caesar or Greek salad encased in an organic whole wheat tortilla with organic lettuce and fresh veggies are lighter fare.
Get energized for your outdoor excursion with an order from the espresso bar. Choose either traditional espresso or Yerba Mate.
The Common Ground is open Monday to Thursday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Burger Den
Situated on School House Pond between Lauderdale and Hedges Lakes about five miles north of Cambridge's center, the Burger Den has had the same family management since 1975. It's a great place to refuel after a day on the slopes at Prospect Mountain in Bennington or a kayak or canoe trip on the Battenkill River.
In addition to both traditional and veggie burgers, the Burger Den serves a wide variety of salads, cold sandwiches, pizzas and subs. Custom order your pizza to include any of six toppings, or choose from the four specialty pizzas. All the prime rib, beef pork and turkey used in the Burger Den's sandwiches are freshly roasted on the premises each day.
The Burger Den is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

West Mountain Inn
Across the Vermont border, about 25 minutes east of Cambridge on Route 313 is the West Mountain Inn in Arlington. While the guests at this mid-1800s inn have priority in its dining room, making a reservation for one of the open tables will be well worth the time and trip.
Every meal coming out of the inn's kitchen is prepared with organic locally grown produce and dairy products and free-range meats. All baked goods and desserts are made on the premises. Dinner entrées include rack of lamb with date and honey sauce, and beef tenderloin with a currant and port wine sauce. Pan-glazed carrots with fresh ginger and Vermont maple syrup are a popular side dish.
The inn serves breakfast Monday through Friday between 8 and 9:30 a.m, and weekends until 10 a.m. Sunday brunch is also available seasonally from 9 a.m. until noon. Dinner is served nightly from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
