The Iowa State University of Science and Technology (commonly abbreviated as ISU) is in Ames, which is just north of Des Moines. This area of Iowa offers many outdoor activities, including golfing, motor boating, biking, hiking, camping, sailing and fishing. One of the best hiking and biking paths in the area is the Neal Smith Trail, which is 24 miles in length and goes into the downtown section of Des Moines.
