Set in New York state's 6,000,000-acre Adirondack State Park, Lake George is known as the jewel of the Adirondacks. Sagamore Resort

Perched on Green Island's southern end, the Sagamore Resort has been drawing visitors to the Adirondacks and Lake George for over a century. Once the exclusive playground of America's captains of industry and finance, the Sagamore Hotel was completely restored beginning in 1981 to become the 83-room and 54-suite marvel of hospitality it is today. Guests also can opt to stay in the rooms or suites of the resort's seven lakefront lodges.

For the ultimate in pampering, the Sagamore offers "The Castle," a secluded six-bedroom, four-bath and five-fireplace home with a kitchen, dining room, living room and family room opening onto a private lakeside deck. The Castle accommodates up to 12 people.

All the Sagamore's accommodations have large-screen televisions with cable and video game access, data ports and high-speed Internet. The resort has a private beach, tennis courts and a golf course; an indoor and two outdoor pools; croquet lawn; nature trail; and fitness center.

With four restaurants, a coffee bar and a desserts-only menu at the Veranda, the Sagamore has menus to please every palate.

Econo Lodge

The comfortable affordability of the Queensbury Econo Lodge, just 10 minutes from downtown Lake George, is just right for travelers on a budget. This pet-friendly hotel features cheery rooms with cable TV, microwaves and refrigerators.

Kastner's Motel on the Lake

On Lake Vanare in Adirondack Park ,10 minutes southwest of Lake George beach, rustic Kastner's Motel sits peacefully under century-old pine trees. This family-oriented getaway has efficiencies, motel rooms, and cabins with private porches where guests can relax to the sound of lapping lake water.

The air-conditioned motel rooms have refrigerators and televisions. Housekeeping cabins have full kitchens and a living room with dining area, while efficiencies have a kitchenette and dining area.

All guests share the lakeside picnic area, grills and kid's play area. Shuffleboard, ping-pong, badminton and horseshoes mean some friendly competition. The lake is open for rowboats, paddleboats, fishing and swimming.
