Situated on the east end of Long Island, a ferry ride from New York City, is the Hamptons. Made up of six areas--East Hampton, Southampton, Westhampton, Bridgehampton, Montauk and East Quogue--the Hamptons is known for its wealthy residents, including celebrities and notable power brokers. The Hamptons are all about laid-back luxury. The season begins in April and goes through September, and the most popular accommodations are rental homes. Visitors to the Hamptons can enjoy the shopping, nightlife, polo, fine dining, bicycling, hiking the parks and nature reserves and horseback riding, but the real draw is the water. Relaxing on the beach, kayaking, boogie boarding, sailing, power boating and fishing are the best ways to spend time in the Hamptons. If you find yourself on a boat close to time for lunch or dinner, there's no need to dock and drive to get a meal; just pull up outside one of the Hamptons' boat-accessible restaurants.

East Hampton Point

With its fantastic views of Three Mile Harbor, East Hampton Point restaurant is a popular local favorite. Near East Hampton Village, East Point serves a seasonal menu of contemporary American cuisine. The restaurant has a full bar, a raw bar, live music, an extensive wine list and private dining area. It serves lunch and is open from April 1 through Labor Day. If arriving by water, there are eight boat slips available and no docking fee. Boat directions: south of green buoy 19.

Lighthouse Grill

Located at the Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina overlooking Lake Montauk, the Lighthouse Grill serves classic American cuisine--steak, seafood and pasta. Popular with the yachting set since 1929 when John Jacob Astor and J.P. Morgan brought their mega-yachts to the marina, the restaurant is upscale without being fussy. The Lighthouse Grill only serves locally sourced produce, meat, fish, dairy and wines, and the menu changes daily (dinner only). If arriving by boat, reservations are required, and a fee of $1 per foot will be added to your dinner tab.

Indian Cove Restaurant & Marina

The Indian Cove restaurant on the Shinnecock Canal offers water views and a reasonably priced menu of fresh seafood. Dinner is served daily and brunch on Sunday (closed Tuesdays). There are four boat slips available at the marina for diners and no dockage fee. If arriving by boat, go to Shinnecock Canal.

The Coast Grill

The Coast Grill is a small restaurant on Wooley Pond in Southampton with a casual atmosphere and fine food. Known for its fresh seafood, the Coast Grill is a favorite with locals and tourists alike, so be sure to make reservations (dinner only). It is closed Wednesdays in season and open Wednesday through Sunday in winter. If arriving by boat, go to Wooley Pond and tie up wherever you like at the bulkhead. No dockage fees.
