Mayaguez is the eighth-largest city in Puerto Rico, located on the western coast of the island nation. The city, once known for its textile factories and tuna industry, is now home to the University of Puerto Rico and a Tropical Agricultural Research Station. Mayaguez has the largest concentration of mango plants in Puerto Rico as well as several bakeries that ship products worldwide. Local attractions include a large stretch of Puerto Rico's famous beaches along with the Mayaguez Zoo. Mayaguez offers visitors several choices for hotels near all of the city's major attractions and industry.

The Mayaguez Resort and Casino is a luxury hotel located a short five-minute drive from the city center. It is also a short distance from the Mayaguez Airport, making it very convenient for travelers. The resort features 140 guestrooms located throughout 20 acres of lush, landscaped gardens. The resort is perched on a hilltop overlooking the Mayaguez Harbor, giving guests spectacular views from the guest rooms as well as the restaurant. Howard Johnson Mayaguez

The Howard Johnson Mayaguez is a downtown hotel located a 30-minute ride from the airport. The hotel is near the Cathedral on Plaza Colon and was built by converting a monastery. Though the hotel is small, it does have a small courtyard that contains an outdoor pool. Guests services offered include laundry, dry cleaning and business services such as fax. Guest rooms comfortably sleep up to six guests and include cable television and in-room coffeemakers. The hotel is located close to many local attractions, including the Maricao Forest Reserve and the Mayaguez Zoo.
