Old Orchard Beach, Maine Hotels

Old Orchard Beach, Maine Hotels
With the picturesque seaport town of Kennebunkport and the 3100-acre Scarborough Marsh, Maine's largest tidal Marsh among its attractions, the Maine coast south of Portland is a hiker's delight. Homer Winslow chose to live and paint in Scarborough.

Old Orchard Beach, with its quaint carnival atmosphere, draws thousands of annual vacationers to southern Maine. The hotels of Old Orchard provide easy access both to boisterous beach fun and to the area's quieter scenic beauty.

The Ocean Walk Hotel

With a rose-bordered boardwalk leading to the beach, the Ocean Walk Hotel is at Old Orchard Beach's quieter end, about a mile and a half from downtown. Its one- bedroom studios and two-bedroom suites all with full kitchens, are ideal for both romantic getaways and family vacations.

For those days when the Atlantic is too cold to be inviting, the Ocean Walk has an indoor heated swimming pool. Room amenities include WiFi, telephones, cable TV with VCRs, and DVD players. The hotel has a selection of over 300 videos and DVDs.

Some suites have full ocean views, skylights and /or cathedral ceilings. The Ocean Walk's business center has both a computer workstation and printer. While the hotel has no restaurant, it's just a short walk from Joseph's by the Sea, where you can indulge in gourmet weekend breakfasts or dinners on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The Ocean House Hotel & Motel

What began as an early 20th-century beach escape for wealthy vacationers is now a hotel and motel complex. The same family has been managing Ocean House Hotel & Motel, right on Old Orchard Beach, for close to half a century.

The Hotel retains its original charm. Escape the summer sun in the shade of its deep verandas, or warm in the summer sun without ever leaving the hotel by relaxing in the sunroom over a book from the extensive library. Most of the simply (no TVs) but comfortably furnished rooms have ocean views and their own bathrooms.

The Motel offers 34 apartment or room-style units, each with a private bath and kitchenette. All units have cable TV. As a Motel guest, you'll share use of the beachside pool and the barbecue area gas grills with the Hotel guests. The Ocean House has no on-site dining, but it's an easy stroll to the Pier and many Old Orchard Beach restaurants.
