Cigar Bars in Portland, Oregon

Cigar Bars in Portland, Oregon
Whether you've come to Portland for the skiing, fishing, hiking or biking, at some point you're going to be looking for a cool place to indulge your love of food, drink, and maybe even a fine cigar. Though Oregon's anti-smoking law took effect Jan. 1, 2009, the writers of the law wisely grandfathered in cigar bars. Portland, known affectionately as Stumptown to the locals, has a vibrant cigar-loving community. Whether you're after classy, cool or just down home, Portland has a place for you to enjoy that cigar.

Kells Cigar Room

Kells Portland, a longtime Stumptown favorite, was voted the No. 1 Irish Restaurant and Pub in the United States on Tom Horan's America's Top Ten Club for 2009. Once you're at Kells, take the stairs down to the cellar to find the Cigar Room, where cozy wooden booths and tables make you feel like you've arrived in Ireland. Kells's fine cigars run from $6.25 to $19.50. Enjoy your choice with one of more than 60 single malt scotches, more than 20 Irish whiskeys or a freshly drawn Guinness stout. Kells opens early on the weekends so you can enjoy all your favorite sports, and great food is always available from the pub menu.

McMenamins Greater Trumps Pub

Next to Portland's historic Bagdad Theater in the trendy Hawthorne District, you'll find McMenamins Greater Trumps Pub. If you hanker for smoking your cigar among dark wood paneling and an air of mystery, Greater Trumps is for you. But it's also a friendly bar, specializing in the after-dinner "cigars and Porto" tradition, with an assortment of Jamaican, Honduran and Dominican cigars to enjoy, and some of the ports aged longer than 15 years. There are also single malts, whiskeys and cognacs. If you're hungry, you can send for sustenance from the Bagdad Theater Café next door. After the bustle of the Hawthorne nightlife, Greater Trumps can be a relaxing end to your evening.

El Gaucho Cigar Lounge

At the swanky El Gaucho Restaurant, on the lobby level of the historic Benson Hotel, the customer comes first. It's no surprise that El Gaucho's Cigar Lounge is comfortable and intimate, with a cigar captain to guide you and wait staff to cut and light the cigar of your choice. El Gaucho's cigar selection runs from $17 to $48, and as with everything here, the selections are stunning and the service is first rate. While enjoying your cigar, you can relax by the fireplace, watch a plasma television or enjoy the conversation. If you're hungry, order the classic El Gaucho steakhouse fare or have great food from the bar menu.
