The Best Road Bikes

The Best Road Bikes

Investing in a road bike commonly is a major fiscal commitment and should be done advisedly, preferably after test riding the bike a few times. The best road bikes usually are associated with big-name manufacturers, and as such, you might have confidence that even the purchase of a used bike still will provide you a good bit of mileage. The best road bikes are those that fit the size, weight and riding style of the owner, not necessarily those with carbon or steel frames or those with the flashiest colors.

Bianchi for Beginners and Intermediate Riders

Opt for a Bianchi if you want the solid reputation of a company that wins races as well as provides basic transportation. The Vigorelli features a steel frame, carbon and aluminum fork and 10-speed shifting. It does not have a water bottle holder---a little extra you want to pick up for lengthy rides. This is a great starter bike to learn the variety of gears and how they will affect your ascent and descent. Because the frame is made from steel, the Bianchi Vigorelli can stand quite a bit of abuse and not look it. As a beginner, it will take you considerable time before you get bored with the ride, and it offers you many years of enjoyment.

LeMond for Intermediate to Advanced Riders

Take a close look at the LeMond line of road bikes. The Zurich model is a good upgrade for the intermediate to advanced rider who is ready for a bit more versatility. What makes the LeMond an excellent choice for the midrange rider are the virtually endless customization possibilities. The bike provides smooth action and none of the rickety acceleration some cheaper models show.

Cannondale for Advanced to Expert Riders

Test ride a Cannondale if you are an advanced rider or compete with other expert riders. The Supersix Hi-Mod is a work of art, but it also comes with a hefty price tag. The Supersix Hi-Mod features all-around carbon-fiber construction, a totally carbon-made fork and an aluminum spindle for additional weight reduction of the bike.
