Downtown Honolulu Restaurants

Downtown Honolulu Restaurants
Honolulu, like most cities, offers a plethora of dining choices - almost too many to count. Most cater to tourists, while others are definitely geared toward the locals. You can choose from anything from classic american food, to seafood, to asian cuisine. Below are just a few of the restaurant choices that the city of Honolulu has to offer. Please note that all prices noted are in USD.

Duke's Restaurant & Barefoot Bar

This restaurant is located right on the beach, and features genuine "Contemporary Hawaiian" music nightly. The restaurant is open for breakfast lunch and dinner daily and offers a cheaper choice to many places in the city. Their breakfast buffet is only $9.95 and lunch is only $10.50. It is a great choice for anyone looking for a nice bite to eat, with a great view of Waikiki Beach.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Company

A restaurant chain based on the hit movie Forrest Gump with Tom Hanks. It's a great seafood restaurant in downtown Honolulu that overlooks the docks right across the street. It is a great restaurant with a lovely "old fishing shack" ambiance. They definitely play up the Forrest Gump motif here, going so far as to signal the wait staff with a "Run Forrest Run" sign. You can get a meal here for lunch or dinner for less than $20, though some dishes will end up being more.

Rainbow Drive-In

Near Mamala Bay, this restaurant offers an authentic Hawaiian Plate Lunch. This quick service establishment only serves food in "to-go" boxes. You can sit in if you wish, but most people prefer to "grab and go". You can order anything from Teriyaki Beef and roast pork, to chicken and fresh fish. The restaurant owners recommend the Mixed Plate for those who can't make up their minds. A lunch here will cost you less than $10.

Phuket Thai Restaurant

Also near Mamala Bay, and decorated in purple and red tones and a great deal of Oriental Artwork, Phuket offers spicy Thai food that will have your mouth burning. The food is guaranteed to be authentic Thai cuisine, and as stated before, is very spicy. They even serve their authentic Thai Iced Tea by the gallon to help cool the fires on many people's tongues. Prices vary, but most are reasonable, and a dinner here can run less than $20 a person.

Legend Vegetarian Restaurant / Legend Seafood Restaurant

If meat's not your thing, then this restaurant is for you. Located near the ship docks that many cruiselines call port, these two restaurants have all you need. The vegetarian portion of this building has over 60 vegetarian selections and boasts that not a single item on their menu is over $15. The seafood portion, though a tad more expensive, offers any number of fresh fish dishes.

Shore Bird Restaurant

This is probably the only restaurant in Honolulu that will allow the customer to be the chef. At this restaurant, you pick your food and bring it over to your own personal grill where you can season and cook it just how you want. If you're not into making your own food, you can always have the kitchen staff cook it for you: they would be more than happy to. They also boast at this restaurant, having free karaoke every night of the week. Open for brunch, lunch and dinner, this establishment will run you about $20 - $30 a person.
