Austin, Minnesota, was founded in 1853 on the old Territorial Trail in south central Minnesota by trappers who saw promise in the resources of the Cedar River. Located at the junction of U.S. Hwy. 218 and Interstate 90, approximately 100 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Austin is has a rich recreational history and many opportunities for the modern day nature enthusiast. Austin has an extensive pedestrian and bike trail system. Hiking, walking and bike trails can also be found at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center and Hormel Arboretum, Todd Park, and Austin Park.
