Famous Canadian Hotels
Canada is a huge and largely uninhabited country, with many vast wilderness that offer great opportunities for outdoor adventures. However, it is also a country with a rich history and culture, as well as a number of prosperous cities. The result is that over time, Canada has become home to a number of famous hotels, some of which have even become international icons. These hotels can serve as a great base or capstone to an outdoors trip to Canada's forests, rivers and coasts.

Banff Springs

The Banff Springs Hotel is one of the world's premier resort destinations and an iconic hotel. Situated in the heart of Canada's Banff National Park, it is regularly profiled for travel magazines and television programs. The hotel has a world-renowned golf course located in the valley below it, and during the winter there is first rate skiing in the immediate vicinity. Of course, being located inside Banff National Park also grants access to a wide range of outdoor activities, such as hiking, climbing, fishing and mountain biking. All rooms come with cable TV and high-speed internet access. Despite the relatively isolated location, guests will never feel like they lack for dining or drinking options, as the hotel has four bars and six separate restaurants. Chateau Frontenac

This hotel is such a part of the skyline of Quebec City that is counts as a tourist destination in its own right. It is located in the center of old Quebec, overlooking the St. Lawrence River and the old, colonial part of town while sitting adjacent to the large battlefield park of the Plains of Abraham. The latter offers strolls during the summer and cross-country skiing during the winter. All rooms have cable TV and high-speed Internet access. The hotel has three restaurants and a lounge. Palliser Hotel

The Palliser is one of the architectural jewels of Calgary, ranking as one of its most luxurious and historic hotels. All of the 405 rooms come with cable TV and high-speed internet. The hotel has one restaurant and one bar, and does Sunday brunch as well as a decadent desert buffet on Monday nights called "Death by Chocolate." There is a fitness center and spa that includes an indoor swimming pool, steam room and jacuzzi.

Hotel de Glace

The Hotel de Glace is famous as the only ice hotel in North America, and one of only a handful that opens regularly each year. Located not far from Quebec City, it operates between January and early April. The interior of the hotel has an average temperature of 25 degrees, and as the name implies, all walls, ceilings, and many other items in the hotel besides are made from ice. There are 36 rooms and suites, some of which even have fireplaces.
