The Best Digital Waterproof Cameras

The Best Digital Waterproof Cameras
Digital waterproof cameras have taken off in recent years. The trick to deciding which of the many waterproof cameras you should get is to consider what you will be mainly using it for. An avid diver will probably want to get a digital camera with a high depth rating and fittings for a strobe and wide-angle lens, while a kayaker may simply prefer a good waterproof camera that can be used both in and out of the water.

Sealife Mini Reefmaster 6.0

The Sealife Reefmaster Mini is an excellent camera for entry-level underwater digital photographers. The camera features 6 megapixels and has a rubber housing that is nonslippery and helps to protect the camera. It can even be used out of the water, although the quality of the pictures are not as good as an ordinary digital camera. The camera has a 2-inch LCD screen, making it very easy to aim underwater. Finally, the camera is rated to a depth of 130 feet, perfect for divers. For even better underwater photography, the Reefmaster Mini also offers a wide-angle lens and strobe light sold separately.

Sealife DC1000

The Sealife DC1000 is a 10.1 megapixel camera and perfect for someone with a keen interest in underwater photography. It also has a fast shutter response, 0.1 seconds. The camera features both a 5X optical zoom and a 5X digital zoom. The camera has four different underwater modes, including a snorkel mode with a color-correction feature for shallow water. It also has a spy mode which continues to take pictures at a set time interval. The camera is rated for a depth of up to 200 feet and has a wide-angle lens that customers can buy separately, which increases the field of vision by up to 50 percent.

Canon Powershot D10

This camera is Canon's first waterproof camera. The camera features 12.1 megapixels and a 3X optical zoom. Canon states that the camera is both shockproof and freeze-proof and is rated to a depth of up to 30 feet. This may not be the type of camera you want to take diving, but for someone doing a rugged, water-based activity like whitewater rafting, this is definitely the sort of camera worth considering.

Digital Camera Swim Mask

This product is the world's first digital camera built into a snorkel mask. The mask is rated to a depth of only 15 feet, so it is purely for snorkeling. It is a 5-megapixel camera built into the top of a snorkel mask. Instead of a screen to look through, you simply have cross hairs in your mask that you line up to take the picture, which you do by pressing a button at the top of the mask. This camera is not for the serious underwater photographer but great if you like to keep your hands free and don't want to worry about accidentally dropping your expensive waterproof camera.
