Historic Austin Hotels
Austin, Texas has a long and varied history going back to the days before the west was tamed. Now considered the live music capital of the world, Austin is home to some of the best music venues around. The area also offers year-round good weather, a friendly atmosphere and enough golf, tennis and water sports to keep any traveler happy. With such an interesting history, Austin is also home to some of the most stunning historical hotels in the southwestern United States. These hotels are now some of its most prized landmarks and are considered to be wonderful throwbacks to the glamorous past.

The Driskill

The Driskill was built in 1886 as a showplace for cattle baron Jesse Driskill. The hotel is one of Austin's largest and most spectacular hotels and is often seen as a remnant of old-fashioned Texas hospitality. Located in the heart of downtown, The Driskill is in a convenient location to catch the sights and sounds of Austin. The hotel offers 189 guestrooms and suites divided between the Historic Wing and the Traditional Wing, which was added in 1929. Rooms come complete with historical artwork, custom beds, linens and furniture, as well as plasma-screen televisions with pay movies and premium channels. All guests have 24-hour access to Dell workstations, office supplies and secretarial services. Pets are welcome at the Driskill for a $50 fee per animal. There is an on-site fitness center and massage service, as well as plenty of entertainment on nearby 6th Street.
