Famous Hotels in Malaysia
Malaysia is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists, especially of the outdoor adventure-seeking variety. The country is filled with both highland and lowland jungles, beautiful beaches and excellent scuba-diving opportunities. Malaysia also offers a number of well-known and very interesting choices for accommodations, one or more of which can easily be woven into any trip there.

Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion (Penang)

This is the mansion of nineteenth century Chinese merchant Cheong Fatt Tze. Located in the midst of the historic district of Georgetown, the former colonial center of Penang, the building's brilliant blue exterior make it a distinctive city landmark. The interior of the house is a rare success in creating an eclectic blend of Chinese and English nineteenth century design. The house is both a hotel and a museum, and was used as a set in the 1993 Oscar-winning French film "Indochine." There are 16 nicely-appointed rooms with air conditioning and free Wi-Fi access. Although staying here is a bit pricey given that there is no access to facilities like a swimming pool or spa, it is a rare opportunity to spend the night in a genuine, well-known historic monument.

Federal Hotel (Kuala Lumpur)

This four-star was the first modern hotel of Kuala Lumpur, opening its doors a scant three days prior to independence from Britain in 1957. In the days before Kuala Lumpur became a symbol of economic success and an international city, it was the place to stay for high-flying businessmen and foreign dignitaries. As Kuala Lumpur is the country's main entry and exit point, stays at the well-known Federal can easily book-end any trip elsewhere in the country. Every room has satellite TV and high-speed Internet access. Eateries include both a North Indian and Chinese restaurant, as well as a revolving restaurant on the eighteenth floor. There is also an outside swimming pool with a poolside veranda restaurant and bar.
