Getting from Malaysia to Thailand overland can be time-consuming, and reaching anywhere else by boat may require purchasing a cruise ticket. Malaysia Airlines operates out of its main hub at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, with additional hubs located at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Kuching International Airport and Penang International Airport. Malaysia Airlines flies to 85 domestic and worldwide destinations, including South Africa, China, Japan, India, Pakistan, Southeast Asia, Europe and Los Angeles. Meal service and complimentary drinks are provided on all flights. Economy passengers can check one 44-lb. bag.

AirAsia

AirAsia's main hub is at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, with secondary hubs at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Senai International Airport and Penang International Airport. This budget airline operates flights to 75 domestic and international destinations, including China, Southeast Asia, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. AirAsia has a buy-on-board program for meals and drinks. It does not serve pork or alcohol according to Shariah law. AirAsia charges for all checked baggage.

With hubs at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport and Penang International Airport, Firefly is owned by Malaysia Airlines but operates independently. Firefly offers discounted budget flights to 19 destinations throughout Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand (Koh Samui, Phuket). Passengers can check up to 20kg (44 lbs.) of luggage for free. Firefly serves a light snack and beverage on every flight.

Berjaya-Air

Berjaya-Air has limited service to six destinations in Malaysia (Pangkor Island, Redang Island, Subang and Tioman Island), Singapore (Seletar Airport) and Thailand (Ko Samui Samui Airport). Its main hub is located at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport. Passengers are allowed to check up to 10kg (22 lbs.) of baggage at no cost. The maximum allowed for any passenger is 20kg (44 lbs.)
