Douthat State Park
Douthat State Park is situated in the Shenandoah Valley Region of northwest Virginia and is one of the original six state parks that opened in 1936. Encompassing 4,493 acres of the Allegheny Mountains with a 50-acre lake, Douthat is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, since its layout has been used in parks all over the country. The lake is centered in the park with facilities going both north and southwest of it. Park services include campsites, lodges, cabins, marina, amphitheater, horse stables, boat launch and activities like hiking, biking trails, swimming, water sports, fishing and boat tours. First Landing State Park
First Landing State Park is the most popular of all parks and contains 2,888 acres for you to explore. Bought in 1933 and dedicated as one of the first parks in Virginia in 1936, First Landing is both historical and scenic. Find it positioned on the southeast side of Virginia in the Hampton Roads Region in Virginia Beach. Choose from activities like kayaking, fishing, boating, swimming, biking or hiking on the 19 miles of natural trails. Accommodations includes cabins and camping and other highlights consist of the Chesapeake Bay Center that has aquariums, educational displays, historic exhibits, amphitheater and visitor center.

Pocahontas State Park
Travelers to central Virginia should make a stop at Pocahontas State Park, one of the top-rated state parks found a mere 20 miles from Richmond. Travel on 58 miles of trails spread throughout the 7,724 acres of the park and observe a range of wildlife and surroundings. Outdoor activities on the lakes and trails found here include biking, hiking, horseback riding, freshwater fishing, boating, swimming, a water park along with boat rentals.
