Places to Eat in New York's Times Square

Places to Eat in New York's Times Square
Times Square is a prime tourist attraction in the heart of New York City. There are a variety of restaurants in the Times Square area to choose from, but unfortunately, many of them are low-quality chain restaurants and expensive tourist traps. To avoid picking a restaurant that turns into an eating disaster, try a few of these sure-fire choices that stand out from the pack.

Cafe Edison

Cafe Edison is a moderately priced diner located next-door to the Edison Hotel in the heart of Times Square. Whether you're dining out with kids or elderly relatives with specific tastes, Cafe Edison is a quick place to grab lunch and maybe see a celebrity or two. Cafe Edison is a frequent lunch spot for actors who need to get a bite between Broadway shows and features Jewish comfort food that will settle your stomach and energize you for a busy day of sightseeing.

Becco

Becco, located on Times Square's historic Restaurant Row, is an Italian restaurant. Becco can get very crowded, even for lunch on a weekday, so make a reservation a week ahead of time---or more on holidays. Becco features an all-you-can-eat pasta tasting for lunchtime. Signature dishes at Becco include seared day-boat seafood in lobster sauce served over Sicilian couscous, and classic stuffed cubanella peppers braised in tomato sauce with penne gigante.

Churrascaria Plataforma

Churrascaria Plataforma is a Brazilian steakhouse located just north of the hustle and bustle of Times Square. For an extravagant lunch or dinner, Churrascaria Plataforma features an all-you-can-eat buffet station that is unlike any other in Times Square. It features sushi, fresh fish and galore. The salad bar is only the appetizer, however, because the real joy of Churrascaria Plataforma is eating cut after cut of prime rib, steak, bacon-wrapped turkey, rabbit, pork and dozens of other meats. There is no traditional menu.

John's Pizzeria

The first John's Pizzeria was opened in Greenwich Village, but its newer location is far more exciting. John's Pizzeria in Times Square is located in the old Gospel Tabernacle Church, which provides a serene and fascinating setting to munch on pizza. Other dishes served at John's besides pizza include chicken parmigana and spinach ravioli. John's serves its pizzas family-style, so you can dig in quickly and enjoy a quick, moderately priced lunch. John's pizza selections are refined enough to serve the tastes of adults but provide options for picky children, too.
