Cheap Hostels in Vattaro, Italy
Vattaro is a small community in the province of Trento, a region tucked into the northern part of Italy near the Austrian border. It is one of the few regions where German and Italian are both official languages, and this is reflected in many of the street and business names. Skiing, hiking and other outdoor activities are commonplace, since the area is at most an hour's drive from the Alps. The region has a number of inexpensive hostels for the tourist on a budget. (Note: all prices quoted below are current as of 2009.)

Giovane Europa

A youth hostel located in nearby Trento, it sits in a recently renovated building and is near the rail and bus stations. The hostel offers 32 rooms, accommodating between one and six people. All have private bathrooms, telephones and balconies. The reception staff is multilingual, and the building has special arrangements for those with disabilities. The on-site restaurant is self- or table-serve, and offers a full bar, coffee shop and snack bar for guests. The hostel rents bikes, has a reading room and will organize special events, including sport outings and orchestra concerts. Shared rooms start at €18 ($26) per person, per night, and include breakfast.

Ostello Di Riva Del Garda

About an hour's drive from Vattaro is one of Italy's most tourist-friendly destinations. Lake Garda provides not only unsurpassed natural beauty, but also offers water sports, sailing, swimming and kayaking. Hiking and bike trails are also nearby. The Ostello Di Riva Del Garda offers single and group rooms starting at €16 ($23) per person, per night, and provides guests with cable TV, public telephone and breakfast for an additional charge.

Cappello di Ferro-Eisenhut

A budget hotel in nearby Bolzano, this is one of the area's most historic landmarks. It is situated close to many of the area's hot spots. The shopping district, fruit market and museums are within a few minutes' walk. For €28 ($42) guests are given a private shower and bathroom, breakfast buffet, satellite TV and DVD player. They offer a full-service restaurant, bar and café, as well as tea and coffee facilities. For outdoor activities, the hotel offers daily bike rides, as well as bike rental and transfers around town.

Youth Hostel Merano

A hostel located in South Tyrol, one of the German-speaking towns in the area known for wine making, offers 27 rooms within a few minutes' walk from the local train station and town center. Rooms can be single or sleep up to eight, with certain rooms equipped for those with disabilities. The hostel offers a morning breakfast buffet, communal TV and laundry facilities. For travelers with sporting equipment, it can be stored securely in the basement and removed at your convenience.
